Two youth will give a public tour on July 16th at 12:00 pm at Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), Driftwood Marine Park, which is located near Saratoga Beach. This Youth and Ecological Restoration Program (YER), Phase II project is jointly funded by Ministry of Children and Family Development and CVRD, Community Services Branch.
Driftwood Marine Park is about ten acres in size with public access from Clarkson Avenue. Within the park is a combination of Douglas fir forest, and fresh and brackish marsh. Under the guidance of Biologist, Ian Moul, the youth will be learning to identify, document and map vegetation. On the final day of this five day project, the two youth will teach the public about ecological inventory techniques and history of this park.
To quote one of the youth who will be involved with this YERII project “All I know is that it makes the community better. We’re doing better things instead of sitting around doing nothing because when we are doing nothing the world doesn’t change”. Through YER youth become more positively engaged in our community.
Come out to learn about Driftwood Marine Park on July 16th at 12:00 pm. Follow the old Island Highway north, turn right on Miracle Beach Drive, then left on Clarkson Avenue to the Driftwood Marine Park sign on the right, and park along the road. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
