Millard Nature Park Youth Led Tour

Jul 25, 2024 | News and Events

On August 2 nd at 12:00 noon, the public is invited to a youth led tour in Millard Nature Park.

Tour participants will learn about this mature second growth forest, which is home to many large Douglas fir trees. This Youth and Ecological Restoration (YER), Phase II project is made possible with funding from the Ministry of Children and Family Development and the City of Courtenay.

Millard Nature Park is 35 acres in size and located at the south end of Courtenay, bordering the Walmart Shopping Centre. For a park of this size, it hosts a variety of habitats, including Millard Creek which is home to coho, pink and chum salmon. Biologist, Tanis Gower, will lead the 2024 YER Phase II research project, guiding the youth and providing a final report for the City of Courtenay Parks staff. The data collected by the youth will assist the city with future park management strategies.

Two youth will lead a public tour of the site, sharing what they have learned about the park. People wanting to attend will meet at the entrance to the park on Anfield Road. We look forward to you joining us at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 2nd.
